Canada: huge iceberg crosses the coast between the houses of a remote village

Imagine waking up one morning, looking out your window to admire the rising sun and finding yourself in front of a huge Iceberg just a few metres from your house. It happened a few days ago in Ferryland, in Canadaon the island of Newfoundland. The remote village was immediately invaded by tourists and photographers attracted by the desire to immortalise the iceberg that had become stranded in the shallows.

As summer approaches, the glaciers of the Greenland begin to melt and not infrequently cross the Canadian coast, but this year the rise in temperatures anticipated its dissolution. The channel from Baffin Bay flows into the Atlantic, passes Labrador and the island of Newfoundland, is called Iceberg Alleythe iceberg corridor. It is through it that the great ice mountains enter in spring.

However, the phenomenon that has attracted hundreds of people to the small village of Ferryland is certainly spectacular, but it does cause some concern: "They are not usually seen at this time of year, at least not until late May or June. The set of icebergs we are already seeing now is something that makes one think"Rebecca Acton-Bond, superintendent of operations for the Canadian Coast Guard, told CBC News. The biggest concern stems from the inconvenience that many sheets of ice can create for shipping and of course fishing.

Experts of the Canadian Ice Service would have classified it among the 'Big' icebergs, which means a height of about 80 metres and a length of about 550. Naturally, a competition of selfies and original photos was triggered among all the people who came to Ferryland and who, for a few days, enlivened this small remote village in Canada, which according to the last census has only 465 inhabitants, almost all of them fishermen.
